OpenFest 2025, a festival for free software, open source, knowledge, and art, will take place on October 17th and 18th, 2025, at the "John
Atanasoff" Forum in Sofia Tech Park.

The goal of OpenFest for over 20 years has been:

  • Promoting Free and Open Source Software: The festival aims to showcase projects and innovations that utilize or are licensed under free licenses, demonstrating their advantages and capabilities.
  • Creating a Community and Platform for Knowledge Exchange: OpenFest serves as a meeting point for professionals, enthusiasts, and individuals interested in freedom in technology. The event encourages the sharing of knowledge, experience, and best practices across various fields.
  • Encouraging Free Art: The festival aims to showcase and inspire the creation of artistic works that are accessible and can be freely used and distributed under open licenses.
  • Supporting Career Development in Open Source: OpenFest seeks to provide information and opportunities for those looking to contribute to open source projects or build a professional career in this area.

A call for proposals for lectures, workshops, and stands is open until September 1st, 2025. We welcome submissions in the following thematic categories:

  • Introductory: Presentations aimed at individuals taking their first steps in the IT industry and getting acquainted with open technologies. These lectures should be accessible and understandable for beginners.
  • Technical: Lectures and demonstrations related to various aspects of free and open source technologies, including programming, system administration, networking, security, and other technical topics.
  • OpenArt: Presentation of creative projects in the fields of music, visual arts (graphics, animation, paintings), performance, and other artistic forms that are created and shared under free licenses.
  • Community and Social: Discussions and presentations related to building and managing open communities, educational initiatives, legal aspects of free licenses, the social impact of technology, user experience, and inclusivity.

All approved presentations will be recorded and published under the Creative Commons -- Attribution -- No derivatives (CC-BY-ND) license to
ensure wider dissemination of the shared knowledge.
